Summer Lovin': Burst of Color

summerlovin

It's almost summer all year round on my side of the globe, and so far I'm lovin' it much more than I loved last year's. This year we have erratic thunderstorms and showers of rain, which although inconvenient, is really a cooling relief from the usual summer weather we have here (scorching hot + humid days).  And it's been hot elsewhere as well what with the heatwave hitting the States and the UK (gasp!). So I thought I'd put together some of my summer lovin' favorites to share with you guys!

I am absolutely head over heels in love with yellow this summer, which is weird because I have NO yellow pieces whatsoever in my wardrobe. But I didn't let myself go too crazy because I wanted to add more colors to my summer wear! I discovered that I always went back to basics so I thought I'd experiment with more colors this year. I haven't bought anything in a while (except gym wear) so I'm pretty excited!

I picked out 5 pieces this time round, 1 piece for each part of the wardrobe. I always try to balance out the amount of stuff that I have because the hubby loves me in dresses, but I like the sophistication pants give and the freedom I can have to style around it. So the best solution is... buy one of each. Then everybody's happy. Haha!

The SHOE that I picked is absolutely amaze-balls, I tell ya! Amazing price, great to style and brightens up any outfit! The Cotton On Rubi Toby Flat (S$19.95 / US$15.72) looks effortlessly chic with the combination of neon yellow and tan, and pairs great with just a slouchy top and skinny capris. I already bought this one... It's a no-brainer!

Psst: Sizing runs a little small on this one, go up 1 to 2 sizes!

The TOP that I chose is already in the cart and ready to go! ASOS is my go-to site for my new season gear and I found this little gem in the SALE section. My yellow obsession kicked in! Plus I really liked the lemon vertical stripes instead of the "usual" horizontal ones. The ASOS Vest in Stripe Print (S$19.51 / US$15.27) is lightweight and looks great with just a pair of black shorts + flip flops, and cheers up anyone wearing it.

More reasons you should buy this one: ASOS is having an extra 10% off for all sale items (WHAT!!!) with the code TAKE10.

Psst: May be a little sheer.

The Mulberry Dorset Tote is definitely a splurge for me but I've been lusting for it since last Fall. I think the soft, buttery leather in gorgeous burnt orange is the perfect shade for transitioning from Summer to Fall. It still manages to brighten up any casual outfit with its interesting hue, but would definitely fit into any Fall palette. I love the weaved straps and how the rest of the bag is simple + clean, no extra fluff. In the medium size, it's great for grocery-shopping and even smaller meetings. Image from net-a-porter.

More reasons you should buy this one: Actually, it should be less reasons to. :( The burnt orange version is extremely hard to find now (Net-a-Porter also stopped selling it) so I guess you're one of the lucky ones if you manage to snag a piece!

Psst: Soft, buttery leathers require some care.

Royal blue, cobalt blue or electric blue PANTS? Whichever way you choose to see this pair, the eye-catching hue will definitely make it a must-have! I love how Forever21's Twill Skinny Pants (US$15.80) fits and how easy it is to style (hot summer days without A/C, I really don't wanna be standing in front of my wardrobe with a headache and sweat down my back!) with a casual white tee and sandals. Add a blazer and some heels and you'll look casual but polished.

More reasons you should buy this one: It really elongates your legs because of the fit + good, reasonable price.

Oh, another splurge for the Summer! I love, love love this DRESS. The neckline, the pleats and the amazing orange color that makes me feel like I'm on vacation. My hubby would love this Ted Baker Striped Pleated Dress (S$301.28 / US$235.88) for an al fresco dinner out (but probably not the price tag...). Pair it with thin-strapped stilettos + a clutch and you're ready for a date night!

In summary...

If you had to just get one of these, I'd say go for the Cotton On Rubi shoes! They look super classy in real life and unlike the price tag, which is super easy on the wallet for everyone. And it adds just a touch of style to any outfit so it's definitely a MUST BUY!
